Got your Nancy Lem? Here is a step-by-step walkthrough covering everything from unboxing to your very first session — and how to keep it in great shape for the long run. If you're still deciding whether to buy, check out our full Nancy Lem review first.
Step 1: Unboxing
1 What's in the box
Open your Nancy box and you'll find: the Lem clitoral massager, a USB-C magnetic charging cable, a storage pouch, and a user guide. Take a moment to check everything is there and give the Lem a quick rinse with warm water and mild soap before first use.
Step 2: First Charge
2 Charge before you play
Attach the magnetic end of the USB-C charging cable to the bottom of the Lem — it snaps into place. Plug the other end into any USB-C power source. The Lem comes with some charge, but we recommend a full charge before first use. This takes about 90 minutes. A small LED will indicate when it's fully charged.
Tip: Many users report the Lem comes with significant charge right out of the box. If you're eager, check if it turns on — you might be able to start right away and do a full charge later.
Step 3: Getting Started
3 Turning it on
Press and hold the button for about 2 seconds to power on the Lem. It will start on the lowest intensity setting. The button is located on the body of the device — run your finger along the surface to find the slightly raised area.
4 Positioning
The Lem uses air-suction technology, so it works differently from a traditional vibrator. Place the opening (the small nozzle at the pointed tip) over or near the clitoris. You don't need to press hard — the air-pulse waves do the work. A light seal creates the best sensation, but experiment with positioning and angle to find what feels right for you.
Tip: Use a water-based lubricant around the nozzle opening for a better seal and enhanced sensation. Avoid silicone-based lubricants as they can degrade the silicone material over time.
Step 4: Finding the Right Setting
5 Work your way up
The Lem has 12 intensity levels. Start low and work your way up. Press the button once to advance to the next level. Here's a rough guide:
- Levels 1-3: Gentle warm-up. Subtle, barely-there pulsing. Good for building anticipation.
- Levels 4-7: The sweet spot for most users. This is where the air-pulse technology really shines.
- Levels 8-12: Powerful. Best for when you know exactly what you want. Many users find they rarely need to go past level 7.
Tip: There's no reverse button, so you'll cycle through all 12 levels before returning to level 1. If you overshoot your preferred setting, keep clicking until it comes back around — or press and hold to turn off and restart.
Step 5: Cleaning After Use
6 Clean after every use
The Lem is IPX7 waterproof, so cleaning is simple. Rinse under warm running water with mild soap (unscented hand soap works well). Pay attention to the nozzle opening where residue can collect. Pat dry with a lint-free cloth or let it air dry completely before storing.
- Do: Use warm water and mild soap
- Do: Clean before AND after each use
- Do: Use water-based lubricant only
- Don't: Use silicone-based lubricant (degrades the material)
- Don't: Use alcohol-based or harsh chemical cleaners
- Don't: Put it in a dishwasher or boiling water
Step 6: Storage Tips
7 Store it properly
Use the included storage pouch to keep your Lem clean and protected between uses. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid storing it touching other silicone toys — prolonged silicone-on-silicone contact can degrade the material.
Step 7: Troubleshooting
It won't turn on
Make sure it's charged. Connect the magnetic charger and wait at least 15 minutes before trying again. If the magnetic cable isn't staying attached, make sure the contacts are clean and aligned.
The suction feels weak
Check the seal. The nozzle opening needs to create a light seal around the clitoris for the air-pulse technology to work effectively. Try adjusting the angle or using a small amount of water-based lubricant around the opening to improve contact.
It's too intense on the lowest setting
This is more common than you might think. Try using it through thin underwear to reduce the sensation, or position it slightly off-center rather than directly on the clitoris. With time, sensitivity often adjusts.
The button is hard to find
The Lem has a deliberately smooth design, which means the button isn't raised like a traditional device. Run your finger along the widest part of the body — the button area has a slightly different texture. After a few uses, muscle memory kicks in.
